This Week’s Recap

Sorry for the lack of posting! I suppose once per week isn’t too bad, right? This was a busy busy week for me at work, so I was too tired each night to blog! I did get a chance to make some mediocre sugar cookies on Monday. I used “I am baker” sugar cookie dough and icing recipe. The dough was delicious, but it was a little hard to work with. Chilling it in the fridge left it too soft to work with. Putting it in the freezer made it very laborious to  work with! The cookies turned out yummy though, and I loved the frosting recipe! Don just about ate the whole batch :) I had fun playing with sprinkles. Especially the sharks!

Besides cookie baking, I also managed to get in a little Xmas decorating. Hubby said he felt like he was in a Macy’s ad. That’s all I needed to hear to put a smile on my face! Still have to put up the Christmas Tree and get the ornaments and stuff out of the dining room. Looking forward to doing that tomorrow! Perhaps I’ll be ambitious and post again :)

Let the Christmas traditions begin! One of the first of the season, besides listening to Xmas music incessantly the moment Thanksgiving ends, is to chop down our Christmas Tree! The family (Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Hubby and I) set out to Pine Valley (http://www.pinevalleyfarms.com/) where we chop down a fresh Douglas Fir, or a Fraiser, depending on the year.

It’s quite an experience. You drive up to the top of the hill, grab a cart if you need one, and then enter a sea of Christmas Trees with your saw. Every potential tree candidate must be examined for dead spots underneath, big gaps, crooked bases, and of course to make sure it’s not too tall for the ceiling! My sister usually finds a small branch and runs between the trees waving the branch…Don’t ask.

Once we find the tree, we take a customary picture, then we have it shaken out and wrapped in netting so that we can store it until it’s time to put in the house. Since it’s so fresh, we usually wait a week or so before putting it inside. After that, Trees are loaded onto the minivan roof and we head off to breakfast at Dennys!

Don and Maggie love the peppermint hot chocolate and I love the breakfast meat!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving blogging world! I look forward to this day all year round. Obviously, I lovee the food!! But most of all, I love the time spent with family and friends. I also allow myself to listen to Christmas music after Thanksgiving is over, so that’s a big plus too!!

I had a great, relaxing morning. I got up early to roll out the pie crust and get it into the oven. I made some coffee and enjoyed the quiet morning with the kitties. I had the Macy’s T-giving parade in the background. It was rainy and cold out! Perfect day for pajamas, baking and getting excited for the day! I wish every morning could be this nice.

This year I was in charge of a veggie platter and a pie! I requested to be in charge of the pie so that I could keep practicing my skillz! I made an apple pie, and it turned out delish! I need to find a smaller apple cookie cutter thought! Santa, you hear that?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and if you are like me and are planning on pulling out all of your Xmas stuff tomorrow, have fun and goodluck!

What sounds cuter than Cornish Game Hens? Not much! And they are super cute, and pretty tasty too. I saw them at Safeway and felt that they would serve as an excellent pr-equal to the large bird we’ll be feasting on later this week (Holla T-giving!). I found a recipe off of Food Network: Hens. Hubby’s more of a boneless meat fan, but I think they were still a success. Bradley definitely thought so, even attempting a bold move of stealing off of Daddy’s plate.

Overall, a yummy Sunday dinner.

Today was one of the first days in a long time where I felt like I didn’t have a whole lot to do! Laundry and cleaning was pretty much finished up this weekend. Hubby took care of the lawn yesterday. I was able to relax and lounge around! Hooray!

I also found some super cute boots at Kohls, finally!!! I’m usually not a huge fan of Kohls, but I got lucky today. Found some jeggings (never thought I’d put my body into something called a jegging, but here we are…) All in all, excellent Sunday. Looking forward to Thanksgiving week! Only 2.5 working days, holla!

I bought them in brown

Hello World!

Hello blogging world! I’m trying my hand at blogging on a more routine basis, even if it only means that I’ll have a better account of what i’ve been doing with my life. Maybe one day I’ll look back on this blog and be like, “Oh, that’s how I spent my 20′s!”. If you have any interest in a working girl’s day to day life, baking, attempts at photography and cats, then you’ll probably find this blog interesting.

I’ll do my best to keep up with the blog! I currently have a website that showcases cakes I’ve made: http://lucyminer.blogspot.com/. Check it out! I have a feeling I’ll be merging these blogs eventually, but I guess I have to figure out how to do that. I’ll also have to figure out how to not delete my posts, as this is my second “Hello world” post. Sigh.

Enjoy the blog! I’m open to suggestions! :)
